@mayel, Learning about the possible use cases.
Principal Research Software Engineer at CIM piloting this #bonfire instance. Expect a mix of RT from my mastodon account with genuine posts about #bonfire and the #fediverse

What didn't work?
What got in the way: jargon, the tools, the format, time?
@mayel the signup process didn't work for some. There were several separate issues:
- ORCID signup not working
- Request link in the about page not doing anything
- Issues with Edge
- Something I still don't understand where the confirmation link on the email didn't work
Replacing Tabula
What would happen if bonfire.cim replaced Tabula?
@Nerea 🥰 🤣

and with the latest beta versions, groups are now federated, meaning that they can be followed and interacted with from any app from the #Fediverse , such as Mastodon.

Amazing #scrollytelling about project dependencies based on the infamous XKCD stripe!
Only one week away! 🥳
What are you most looking forward to at #NOSF2026 ?
Interesting background reading about #bonfire 's values and vision.
@bjorn@fediscience.org @matherion@mastodon.nl happy to help! Do ask any questions! Actually, I have just set up a group that was intended to discuss OpenScience features and uses with fellow researchers/OpenScience proponents, even they are not using Bonfire. It is in alpha status, so may not yet work as intended, but maybe you can join from your mastodon accounts already?
@bjorn@fediscience.org @matherion@mastodon.nl Also, you are welcome to join our instance. You could try creating an account yourselves by using orcid -> bonfire.cim.warwick.ac.uk/ab... . If that doesn't work, I'm happy to provide an invite link privately.
@ccamara @matherion yea sorry, probably should have provided a little more context. We are currently setting up an instance for researchers in the Netherlands, so given that you are further along than us I think we''d be very interested to see how you implement this!

@bjorn@fediscience.org thanks for the ping. Sadliy, the wokrshop will be in person only. Is there anything particular you'd be interested in @matherion@mastodon.nl ?
Very excited to officially kickstart our @Bonfire@bonfire.cafe server at Warwick and to be able to codesign it with fellow researchers!
Highly specific request:
Are you autistic/adhd/dyspraxic?
Have you defended a thesis (PhD viva)?
Did you you ask for reasonable adjustments? What’s reasonable?
If you can answer yes to all three, and wouldn’t mind sharing your experience please let me know.
A useful resource to understand / explain what the Fediverse is: https://fediverse.info
This drives me crazy.
Looking forward to meeting this new cohort of students and what they will bring to CIM!
The new academic year is officially starting!
Director Prof. Cagatay Turkay is welcoming the 2026-27 cohort and introducing what makes CIM unique.
Excited with what's about to start!
I think there's a pretty annoying habit of mansplaining on the #OpenStreetMap forum. I've hadn't noticed it until now 'cause I'd never engaged in a long thread before, but damn. Men are explaining basic OSM principles to me like I haven't been a part of this project for over 4 years, linking to them multiple times too. Telling me I should read previous comments again "slowly", and insinuating that I just don't understand the topic at hand.
